Rules of Grammar: Hyphenated Words

According to, “One Word, Two Words, Hyphenated?” By: Mary Louise Gillman, the following words are hyphenated:
strait-laced
store-bought
waist-deep
warm-hearted
hot-tempered
down-to-earth (when used as an adjective)
close-knit
air-traffic control
mid-level
